Beautiful Architecture (Almost)

This building sits about two blocks up the road from us, and has a beautiful, unobstructed Arabian Sea view. As you can see in the next two pictures, there is quite a bit of attention to detail put into the design and construction. Unfortunately, construction happened more than 25 years ago! According to Anwar (our driver), this building was constructed before he was born and has sat in this same partially-completed state for more than two decades.
This seems a common site in Mumbai. Apparently, for buildings to just stop mid-construction is not so unusual, and is almost always linked back to a money-problem. About 2 miles south of us, a large bridge over water has sat, about 1/3 completed, for several years. Imagine the Rt. 50 Bay Bridge in Annapolis, but about a 1/4 as long. It's hard to believe that people will just walk away from a project, but I guess it happens.
I wonder, every time I walk by, what this place would look like if it were completed - windows, tile work, balcony railings, and a good exterior clean. I think it would be stunning. However, I doubt that it will ever be completed. And what may be stranger is that I'm not sure it will ever be demolished, either.

wow, it´s a beautiful building. In Costa Rica and in Lima we were used to seeing big projects run dry and then sit unfinished for years on end. I remember a multileveled terraced house with a carved wooden door with a lion´s head, it had about 14 bedrooms with bathrooms, about 3 kitches, designed for a large family.

i always had that same urge, to imagine it finished... a bed and breakfast, a small inn or hotel... for someone with a large pocketbook to come and take over. Never did happen, though.

If only we were the investor type. We could make a tidy fortune. Finish it up (the hardest part is already done) and renting it.
