Swing Set!

Two weeks ago, Diego and I started to assemble Luis's new Swing Set. We put in about 5 hours each late into a very cold night. The next night, Diego worked another two cold hours while I tutored. Then, he spent 4 days in DC and after that it was freezing (literally) with freezing rain for several days. Well yesterday, with 65-degree weather and blue skies we got it completed!

The directions said it would take between 10-20 hours to put it together. I think that was a conservative estimate. Clearly, Diego has demonstrated his ability to build things (think crib, glider chair, Adirondack chair, etc.). With me reading directions, sorting lumber (about 100 pieces) and hardware (about 50 different types) and Diego doing the technical work (using drill, hammer drill, wrench, socket wrench, hammer, mallet, screwdriver, clamps, clamps, clamps) it took us about 22 hours. An investment, definitely - but worth it!

Lots of hardware (this is less than 1/2 of the bags)

Luis sat up in the fort while Diego worked

It's got a small fort with a ladder and climbing wall to go up and a slide to come down. There are two swings and a glider. On the back side is *tiny* picnic table with bench (built in). The bottom of the fort will become a sandbox. Yesterday, Luis tried each of the parts out and seemed to like the glider best. I'm pretty sure that part of this is the fact that he can climb onto and off of it himself (I wonder where he gets that independent streak??).
